My church has been focusing on I Chronicles 7:14 this Easter season with a sermon series called "IF"
It's a time to reflect on NCC's ministry mission and how God is working it out:
Ordinary people, empowered by God’s Spirit, doing what Jesus did, together, wherever they are.
Gail Oliver, Executive Director of Columbia Heights Youth Center
She is lovingly known throughout the Columbia Heights neighborhood as “Mama Gail” and has held on to that nickname for 23 years. Hailing from New York City, Gail has lived in the District for the past 35 years with her husband, John. In their early years in the District, Gail opened up a florist shop called Gifts by Gail next door to her husband’s delicatessen, John’s Deli. Both were located just across the street from the GALA Hispanic Theater on 14th St. It soon became apparent that owning and operating her own business was not her sole purpose....
Continuing to operate her florist business, Gail taught herself how to run a youth program, raise money and grants, and find consistent volunteers. The program grew to 183 children and while grant money did come in, Mama Gail funded the majority of the programming out of her own pocket - by the revenues from the florist shop....
...Mama Gail believes the time is ripe for the churches to take the reigns of leadership of the youth center. and plans on retiring within the year. She envisions loving, caring adults from these churches filling the halls and using their God-given talents, time and heart to invest in kids in the area who need consistency, mentorship, and discipleship....

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
